In 1979, after Pedro and Tana Bengoa had been married for a year or so, Doyle Allen, Tana’s dad, said he had a good career prospect for Pedro. Doyle worked for Idaho’s Department of Public Works and he saw that there was a niche in the polymer resin industry. Because it was such a specialized field, there were not many people doing it, at least not in Idaho. Doyle connected Pedro with the only local contractor and thus began his 30 plus year career. Pedro worked as an installer for 15 years, first in Idaho and then in Arizona. In 1994 after returning from Arizona, Pedro decided it was time to venture out on his own. He convinced Tana to learn the administrative side of the business, while he put together a crew and taught them the ropes of installation.
Their first big job was the new cardio-vascular surgery suites at St. Luke’s Hospital. Pedro put his brother Fred, and foster sons to work and created a masterpiece that has become his legacy. Tana’s cousin, Jeff Careaga learned the trade from Pedro and now has his own successful company. Son Bill Wibberg, after working in the business since high school, owned his own company for a number of years. Bill is now lead installer at Floor Tech. Son Shane Teachout has worked with Pedro and Bill off and on over the past 20 years and is currently a valued member of the team. In 2013, Pedro’s brother Emilio Bengoa joined Floor Tech as estimator, after serving as Sales Rep for Key Resin Company and L & M Construction Chemicals. In 2012 Paul Hurtado, former owner of Caulking and Waterproofing, LLC. Joined the Floor Tech team. Besides caulking and waterproofing, Paul also has experience in coatings, and stained and polished concrete. The newest member of the team is Alex Galvez, an aspiring young apprentice.
